SoldiersJake and Gabe:   action/war/drama

Creative World Awards (CWA) 2013 Semi-Finalist  Link

Inspired by a true story, Jake and Gabe chronicles two proud, young Marines, thrown together as combat buddies when they land in Vietnam months before the Tet Offensive.  Jake, white, cocky, and self-centered, dreams of pitching for a major league baseball team; Gabe, a southern black youth, dreams of writing children’s books.  Gabe’s friendship and loyalty encourage Jake to fight for ideals, like freedom, and to put the lives of others before his own.  But their loyalty is tested.  At the final battle in Hue, Jake is wounded in a moment of team heroism, and Gabe must choose between his loyalty to his friend and his military duty.

What path will Gabe choose?  How will Jake honor the friend who has taught him courage in the thick of war, in the turmoil of the Civil Rights Movement, and in the face of anti-war protesters who tell him it was all for nothing?

Jake and Gabe is co-authored by Sandra Woffington and Lisa Oster.  Ms. Oster has her BSN (Nursing) and MBA.  She worked for the Department of Defense at Fort Carson, CO in the WTU (Warrior Transition Unit).
